Tom Posey

Tom Posey, advocate for salmon, steelhead and sportfishing, has passed away

Tom Posey, a giant in the sportfishing industry has recently passed away. Tom started the Tom Posey Company in 1965, as a manufacturer’s representative of sporting and recreational goods. The company enjoyed great success when sportfishing was hitting its peak during that era.

Fewer families were more engrained in the success of our fish runs than the Poseys. A founding member of the Northwest Sportfishing Industry Association (NSIA), Tom put fish first, knowing that thriving runs of salmon and steelhead would yield benefits to our local outdoor economy and communities. Since sportfishing represents one of the greatest transfers of wealth from urban to rural communities, what’s good for big business, is great for small communities.

When Tom took the reigns as President for NSIA, he mentored other leaders in the industry and gave invaluable advice as to how best navigate the political, social and economic intricacies of protecting salmon and steelhead for future generations of sportanglers. He left an indelible mark on the historic success of this unique resource that NSIA continues to fight for each and every day.
