Sportfishing Advocates Urge Funding for WA Deschutes River Watershed Center and Salmon Hatchery

Sportfishing advocates, including NSIA, have penned a letter to WA Senators Frockt and Rolfes (WA Senate Way and Means Committee) and Rep. Tharinger (House Capital Budget Committee) urging allocation of $2.2 million in the 2021-2023 Capital Budget funding for the Deschutes River Watershed Center project. Since the Deschutes River did not historically host a wild salmon run beyond Tumwater Falls, it provides an excellent location for building a hatchery with minimal impact on wild salmon, but with great potential benefit for SRKW and anglers.
