Lake Chelan by David Ansley

Access to Public Lands in Washington that are healthy with abundant fish and wildlife resources are one of the foundations of the businesses that NSIA represents.  The size of our customer base is directly dependant on the abundance of access to public lands.

What many don’t know is that a federal funding source, the Land and Water Conservation Fund (derived from off shore oil and gas drilling royalties) supplies funding for many of the areas we are already using.   LWCF funds have been spent across the state, including: Grays Harbor, Lake Chelan, McNary, Nisqually, Ridgefield, Skagit, Snoqualmie, White Salmon and Yakima basins to name a few.

Last year NSIA presented similar letters to OR Senators Jeff Merkley at our banquet, and Senator
Ron Wyden at a meeting, thanking them for their support of this important funding.  Working with other outdoor recreation industry partners in a coalition, we were successful in getting the program fully funded in the President’s Budget.
