NSIA hosted the 2023 Columbia River Run Forecast Meeting last week as an online meeting, with representatives from ODFW, including Tucker Jones, and sportfishing industry leaders coming together to discuss the 2022 Columbia Basin returns and the 2023 forecast. 2022 saw surprisingly bountiful runs in several populations as improved ocean conditions since 2018 resulted in higher returns. Next year looks promising as well for many Basin populations, which could mean good fishing opportunities. However, conservation efforts to protect the Snake River springers could complicate the mainstem fishery.
